Michael will operate in various regions up and down the UK and will work closely with David to establish and maintain strong relationships with existing and new customers.

Jeremy Newton is Managing Director of Dymatec, he said: “This is an exciting development for the company; as we expand further it can only reap benefits for all our stakeholders for the future. We have proved this already with our recent move to larger premises in Bedfordshire and are ready and available to meet our customers’ needs now more than ever before.

“We look forward to continuing our journey with Michael on board and he will be meeting all our customers over the coming months.”

London Cutting: removing a 4,000m3 slab of concrete

Friday, October 5th, 2018

14 months, 10,000 tonnes of concrete and 1,000 diamond blades and cores. Just a few of the big numbers associated with the Grosvenor Place demolition project located a stone’s throw from Buckingham Palace in London.

1

The brief? To remove the basement slab of a five storey building in one of the most prestigious addresses in the capital to allow for additional below ground construction to convert the property into a brand new private hospital.

No easy task, especially considering the thickness of the concrete and the need to retain the majority of the slab to support the building.

Dymatec was retained as the exclusive supplier to contractor London Diamond Drilling, advising on and providing all the blades and cores needed to complete the works, a total of 1,000 over the 14 month life of the project.

20180502_095909

The plan of attack was to remove an 8m wide section around the entire perimeter of the basement slab. The perimeter had to be removed in sections to allow for steelworks to construct the structural support needed to hold up the main facade, which was to remain intact. 8m of concrete at a time was removed with the concrete slab varying in thickness from 1m to 3.5m with a significant quantity of 32mm rebar throughout.

20171023_124655

As well as being a significant quantity to remove, 4,000m3 in total, the concrete was also extremely hard as it was packed with dense black flint, which meant that only the fastest diamond cores and blades would be able to power through it.

20180822_13591320171023_115538

To tackle this tough, unrelenting concrete, Dymatec recommended the SDF P20 diamond blade and supplied over 70 of these blades in varying sizes during the project. This powerful high performing blade, manufactured solely by Dymatec, was the only solution to combat London’s challenging concrete.

20180118_082707

The plan was to tracksaw the entire perimeter up to 1.1m deep and all the cross cuts into sections. However, this was only possible where the concrete was shallow enough. Anything deeper than 1m had to be stitch drilled. To facilitate this process, Dymatec supplied over 900 Turbo S cores.

20171030_17091120180223_091311

Once the perimeter of the concrete slab had been removed, the slab was peppered with 212mm diameter holes so it could be broken up using a 8” hydraulic burster. Only when this was complete could a team come in and break up the slab using Brokk 500 and 260.

                     20171023_120532120171023_122204

During the 14 months it took to cut and drill the basement slab, Dymatec were on site at least once a week, collecting used cores and blades, returning them to their UK headquarters in Bedfordshire to retip and repair them, before delivering new and refurbished consumables back to the project. In addition, Dymatec’s Sales Manager David Hibbert visited the project once every two weeks, to ensure the products were performing as they should.

20171026_112018

To ensure the works stayed on programme, and that tracksawing stayed ahead of the steelworks team, London Diamond Drilling were on site between six to seven days every week during this demanding project.

20180223_10071720180822_135849

Work has now started on casting the new concrete slab for Grosvenor Place, with the construction of the new building expected to last a couple of years.

Dymatec moves into new, larger premises to support continued growth

Tuesday, May 29th, 2018

Spilling at the seams after 18 years in its Luton-based premises, Dymatec found itself in urgent need of new premises to accommodate recent years of significant expansion. So, with plenty of thought and careful consideration, Dymatec at last claimed Units 11-14 – Cemetery Road in Houghton Regis, Bedfordshire. Being ideal for so many reasons we just couldn’t wait to make the move and settle in.

First things started slowly. Stock items were the first to go. Blade by blade, core by core, box by box, our products were beginning to make their way across to Houghton Regis. Small gaps were appearing here and there but everything still looked the same.

1

However, it was not too many weeks before Dymatec Luton started decreasing in slightly bigger chunks. Some key members of our workshop team moved their work to the bigger premises, and some larger storage items such as containers also went on their way.

23

The pace quickened as more van loads of equipment were disappearing from Luton in a more regular fashion.

4

But the whirlwind totally struck when the remaining workshop and office crew put all hands on deck to move the rest of the machinery and stock in just one evening. Business closed as usual one sunny Monday evening – but Dymatec did not go home. Like a switch being flicked, the entire offices were folded up before our very eyes. Taken to the new premises, they seemed to be unfolded just as miraculously. Tuesday morning happened like every other Dymatec morning – just a new postcode and new coffee machine (we get our priorities right here at Dymatec).

Did business stop while all this was going on? Never. Customers come first, even at the most significant stages in progression as a company. Our new premises have so many benefits and there can be no doubt these benefits will surely be passed on to our customers.

Racking that used to loom so large in our warehouse, now drowns in the hugeness of the space. Containers that used up so many vital parking spaces, have now become like small cardboard boxes tucked away out of site. Workshop technicians that had struggled for space to even get their work done can now barely see each other from one side of the workshop to the other.

5

Our new expanse of space means we can cater for your needs as a customer, with much greater ease. For starters, we can hold more stock; new procedures have already helped to speed up some of our order processes; and we have better facilities to house more equipment and machinery – vital for developing our products to ensure they continue to perform the best in the market.

The new premises truly became ours when new, fresh signage blasted our name into Houghton Regis.

6

The gates were shut behind us on our old building; we only have the future in our vision; as we seek to utterly fulfil our potential in our new premises. And, big changes are still afoot, as great plans for new offices and better space utilisation are materialising week by week. So keep your eyes peeled as we reveal the wonderful new transformations.

We can’t wait to welcome all of our customers to our New Dymatec, and prove how this big leap in our company history can only be a change for the better.

Here is our new address:

Brand new Concrete Slot Drain cutting system has potential to transform industry

Thursday, April 12th, 2018

Dymatec and Extrudakerb have joined forces to develop a brand-new cutting system that safely and efficiently cuts sections of Slipform Concrete Slot Drain that are removed to facilitate follow on process.

Ext Picture 4

Dymatec, which manufactures and supplies diamond drilling and concrete cutting machinery and consumables, has co-engineered a brand new bespoke Wire Saw with Extrudakerb, specialists in the design and construction of Slipform concrete products.

Working together, both Dymatec and Extrudakerb have developed a unique system using Dymatec’s 110v Wire Saw, which significantly reduces cutting time per cut compared to conventional methods. Extrudakerb have designed and manufactured all the framework, pulley system and a new clamping mechanism, which coupled to Dymatec’s 110v Wire Saw makes this machine unique in the concrete cutting world.

The new system automates the previous manual process, which involved operators cutting slot drains 700mm x 700mm by hand using a diamond chainsaw. Due to the nature of the activity, this process carried risk to the operator, and limited the time the operator could spend cutting due to hand arm vibration.

As well as limitations in terms of time and safety, the process was also expensive due to the high cost of the diamond chain and the frequency at which they would need to be replaced.

Dymatec and Extrudakerb’s brand new system can be used with no down time, considerably shortening the time to cut the concrete slot drains, whilst providing a perfect perpendicular cut every time.

The new system is such a success, that Extrudakerb has built a total of three bespoke machines, all designed to work with Dymatec’s unique Wire Saw, with the two companies committing to a long-term agreement to continue employing their new system on future projects.

Ext Picture 5IMG-20180122-WA0006

Jeremy Newton, Managing Director of Dymatec, said: “This bespoke new system developed by Dymatec and Extrudakerb is a breakthrough in Concrete slot drain cutting with significant potential to transform the industry.

“The advantages are huge; cutting time has been reduced and the automated process means that extrusion can be ongoing, without the need for exposure breaks, when compared to an equivalent manual operation such as concrete chain saw cutting. I am extremely proud of Dymatec’s dedicated team, particularly our Sales Manager David Hibbert, who has worked tirelessly with Extrudakerb to develop our brand-new Wire Saw which has completely revolutionized this process.

“Dymatec is delighted to be working with Extrudakerb on an ongoing basis and we look forward to further developing the system and improving efficiencies in slot drain cutting.”

James Charlesworth, Managing Director of Extrudakerb, said: “We have seen phenomenal results using our new system developed in conjunction with Dymatec. To reduce cutting time, coupled with the obvious Health and Safety benefits, is an extraordinary achievement which is dramatically reducing the time spent on projects. When Dymatec approached us with their new bespoke Wire Saw technology we set to work developing a machine that would eventually eradicate the need for costly diamond chainsaws and make the whole process more safe, fast and efficient.

“We firmly believe this has the potential to revolutionize the concrete slot drain cutting industry, and we are liaising closely with the relevant authorities with a view to rolling out the machines nationwide.”

Dymatec and Extrudakerb’s system is currently being used as part of a 44000m slipform concrete slot drain Highways England (Kier) project on the M6, junctions 16-19. The scheme currently has 3 Wire Saws in operation with plans to utilize the machines on all of Extrudakerb’s concrete slot drain projects.

Stephen Lee Group Lean Manager for Extrudakerb said, in summary the level of innovation achieved by both Dymatec and Extrudakerb has given the concrete cutting world a better quality and efficient option that ensures the safety of the people undertaking the process, This effort will continue to strive for market leading excellence.
